San Leandro History Museum and Art Gallery presents a sculpture solo exhibition "The Heart Sutra" featuring Bay Area sculptor Feng Jin's recent new series "Hearts On Fire". This series of abstract figurative sculptures innovating concept of ancient goddess figures using modern material and sculpting technique. Inspired by women, with various definitions from ancient sayings, poetry and religious stories, in addition to believe in that a man cultivates pure vision by seeing the woman as a deity, "The Heart Sutra" presents not only twist metal torsos but salute the nature beauty of human bodies.
"Hearts On Fire" Series is an extension of Feng Jin's "The H Series" ("H" stands by "Her"), an evolution from realistic to abstract figures. Sculptures are mostly in size of a live human, with mirror-like high-polished finishing or patina-finished. All of the figures are one of a kind, just like women in this world. Shapes of water drop, moon and heart can be found on most of the pieces. The marble-texture patina finishing provides certain tensions of flowing curves and forms. Some pieces have designed to incorporate both male and female shapes of figures to show the Yin and Yang harmony.
Based in Alameda, Feng Jin is a professional metal sculptor whose work can be seen throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Jin's upcoming major solo exhibitions in the year 2008-2009 are: San Leandro History Museum and Art Gallery, City of Milpitas Phantom Art Gallery, City of Albany Art Gallery and 1870 Art Center. In this late October, "The Heart Sutra" will also exhibit at Stanford Art Space, Stanford University.
"The Heart Sutra": Feng Jin Sculpture Solo Exhibition is sponsored by San Leandro History Museum & Art Gallery. Curated by Abby Chen, program director of San Francisco Chinese Culture Center.
