Wen Yu was born in Suzhou, China. She earned a B.A. in Visual Communication from Soochow University in 2011. The internship before graduation as a graphic designer at Vok Dams Event Agency (German) inspired her passion for a career as an artist. In the September of 2011, she relocated to San Francisco where she enrolled in the fine arts program at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco.
During her M.F.A program, Wen discovered an interest in painting abstract cityscape to capture her interpretation of the ongoing urbanization. Her inspiration comes from the different skylines of Suzhou and San Francisco and Bach’s rhythm. She has exhibited in group shows which include: Community Art Project, Hang Art, Clyde & Co; Beyond Scope, 111 Minna Gallery; Spring Show, Academy of Art University; Show off!, Oceana Art Gallery; School Accreditation Exhibition, Academy of Art University. She also won the first prize of the Artist Magazine's annual competition in 2014.
Wen makes every attempt possible to strengthen her art practice. She has been a volunteer/intern for professional organizations such as San Francisco Art Market, Asian Art Museum of San Francisco and Headlands Center for the Arts. Currently She is interning for FOR-SITE Foundation(Ai Weiwei @ Large) and the de Young Museum.
