A Chinese Culture Foundation of San Francisco Program 舊金山中華文化基金会項目
The Visual Art Center at Chinese Culture Foundation is pleased to announce an open call to currently enrolled graduate level artists for its Present Tense exhibition. Launched in 2007, Present Tense strives to provide a platform for young and emerging artists in the Bay Area and beyond. The exhibition series features a different theme each time to foster dialogue and provide a survey on current issues. The 2015 edition will highlight current and graduating MFA students of Asian descent. The exhibition will present emerging artists at a key, formative point in their careers.
Based on the 2014 Council of Graduate Schools Survey, graduate enrollment has experienced a continuous increase of international students in past years. Particularly in the Bay Area, enrollments from Asia have contributed to the growing pool of new artists. The exhibition serves as a survey and initiative to introduce a new generation of globally mobile artists and the important cultural role of Asian students in the US.
The exhibition will include approximately 20 artists.
Eligibility: Artists of Asian descent currently enrolled (first year or graduating in 2015) in MFA studio art programs at colleges and universities in the San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda county may apply. Artist of Asian descent refers to a person having origins in any of the native peoples of Asia. Works in all media will be considered.
Present Tense 2015 Exhibition Dates: June 6th – August 29th 2015. Exhibition will be held in the Visual Art Center of the Chinese Culture Foundation of San Francisco and other locations of its Without Walls initiatives. Opening reception on June 5th, 2015, and discussion TBD.
Online submissions will be reviewed by guest curator Glen Helfand and CCF Visual Arts staff. A short list of candidates will receive studio visits from the curator, from which the final roster will be composed. Artists will consult with curator and CCC staff to select specific works.
