Deep Roots and New Shoots 2 is the second party of a previous exhibit at the National Japanese American Historical Society gallery.  In this exhibit, we were supposed to show our latest artwork.  Me and my big mouth told them I was going to paint a special painting for this exhibit.

Well...when it came to the deadline of submitting artwork, I haven't even got started.  So after three days the exhibit was up, I finally delivered and installed my painting entitled, Hidden Dragon.  It's also a four feet square painting on birch board like the Firecracker Dude.  It took me three days to get this done.

Originally I was just thinking of doing something real simple with just clouds.  But being me...I wanted to add a dragon obscured by the clouds.

I first blocked int the clouds with that high cover white that Kenny gave me for that Phoenix Rising mural.  That paint is beginning to get old  It's beginning to have a lot of dried paint pieces floating in it.

I then added black keylines to the clouds.  Then sketching with white paint, the dragon in the background.

Here's the clouds with the keylines.

the dragon base was painted in with white the added the keyline detail.

The dragon was then colored.  Detail in the cloud connectors were added with black strokes.

Added scales to the body of the dragon.  After dotting the eye and signing the artwork.

I'm finished.  The art piece got five coats of clear glossy Varithane.  It really brings out the colors.

There you have it...mounted at NJAHS Peace Gallery.  I was late a few days, but personally, I don't think anyone missed me.  Though Pete was going nuts and I had to ignore his constant phone calls every fifteen minutes.

The show is going to be up till the end of April.  The other art pieces at my corner are two photographs of dragon and lion dances.

A 12" x 12" painting on a birch board entitled, Air.  Below is a watercolor entitled,

Return of the Blue Meanies Revisited.  Done on a shikishi board.

The opening reception is going to be tomorrow Saturday January 21st.  12-2pm will be an artist's salon and then 2-4pm will be the reception.  I began a rumor about it having all the sushi and sashimi you can eat.

By the way...Hidden Dragon is on sale for $2500.  Let me know if you're interested.
